Qualification for THECHAMPIONSHIP 2018 will commence at Challenge Wanaka 2017 and conclude at Challenge Salou in May 2018. Have a look at all races here!

 

AGE GROUP QUALIFYING


1.0 AGE GROUP QUALIFICATION SYSTEM

THECHAMPIONSHIP middle-distance age-group qualification system is based on place getting, as opposed to the accrual of points. This simplified system provides all races with a fair and equitable share of THECHAMPIONSHIP qualification slots and provides athletes with a clear and concise understanding of the process. The allocation of qualification slots to the top six age group finishers from CHALLENGEFAMILY events is designed to ensure that THECHAMPIONSHIP is purely focused on achievement and elite age group performance, cementing the events’ status at the pinnacle of long distance triathlon.

 

2.0 AGE GROUP QUALIFICATION PERIOD

Qualification for THECHAMPIONSHIP Samorin 2018 will commence at Challenge Wanaka on February 18, 2017 and conclude at Challenge Salou in May 2018 (Date TBC).

 

3.0 AGE GROUP SLOT ALLOCATION

The allocation of age group slots for THECHAMPIONSHIP Samorin 2018 is outlined as follows:

3.1 Age Group Winners THECHAMPIONSHIP 2017

  • One slot for each male and female Age Group winner at THECHAMPIONSHIP 2017.
  • All Age Group winner at THECHAMPIONSHIP 2017 will be required to validate their THECHAMPIONSHIP 2018 slot by completing one CHALLENGEFAMILY event (full or middle distance) within the qualification period and prove this by mail to thechampionship@challenge-family.com.

 

3.2 Challenge Family Age Group Athlete Slots (Individuals)

  • One slot for each of the top six (6) finishers in each male and female age group at CHALLENGEFAMILY full distance and middle distance races.
  • Slots will roll down in each category up to 12th place.
  • Qualifiers will have four (4) weeks to confirm their spot after the qualifying race.

 

3.3 Relay Team (Age Group) Athlete Slots

  • One slot for each of the top six (6) finishers of the mixed relay team at all CHALLENGEFAMILY full and middle distance events (where relays are conducted).
  • One slot for each of the top six (6) finishers of the all-male relay team at all CHALLENGEFAMILY full and middle distance events (where relays are conducted).
  • One slot for each of the top six (6) finishers of the all-female relay team at all CHALLENGEFAMILY full and middle distance events (where relays are conducted).
  • Team structure at THECHAMPIONSHIP must comprise a minimum of two (2) members of the qualifying team racing at THECHAMPIONSHIP.
  • Slots will roll down in each category up to 12th place.
  • Team qualifiers will have four (4) weeks to confirm their spot after the qualifying race.

 

3.4 Age Group Loyalty Qualification

  • Loyalty slots will be available to any age group athlete who participates in three (3) or more CHALLENGEFAMILY races (full or middle distance) within the qualification period for THECHAMPIONSHIP.
  • Loyalty slots are available to any age group athlete regardless of their finishing time or finishing position at CHALLENGEFAMILY events, so long as they have participated in a minimum of three (3) or more CHALLENGEFAMILY events within the qualification period.
  • Athletes will be required to submit a request (via email) for one of the loyalty slots and prove they registered and started three CHALLENGEFAMILY races within the qualification period. A total of 300 slots are available on a first come, first served basis.
  • Upon receipt of the request from the first 300 loyalty qualifiers, and proof of the three races, the “loyalty athlete” will be provided with a registration code to which they can use to register for THECHAMPIONSHIP on-line. The “loyalty athlete” will have to the close of registration period to complete their on-line registration using the registration form.

 

3.5 Regional Championships

  • For any regional championship events announced and conducted during the qualification period these regional championship events will carry double slots then all other Challenge Family events.

 

3.6 Corporate Cup – CHALLENGELISBOA

  • One slot for each of the top ten (10) finishers of the relay team at the Corporate Cup at CHALLENGELISBOA
  • Team structure at THECHAMPIONSHIP must comprise a minimum of two (2) members of the qualifying team racing at THECHAMPIONSHIP.
  • Team qualifiers will have four (4) weeks to confirm their spot after the qualifying race.
  • Slots will roll down in each category up to 20th place.

 

3.7 New Events in the Qualification Period

For all new CHALLENGEFAMILY events announced and conducted in the qualification period for THECHAMPIONSHIP 2017, each new Event will carry the following qualifying slots.

  • One slot for each of the top six (6) finishers in each male and female age group at CHALLENGEFAMILY full distance and middle distance races.
  • One slot for each of the top six (6) finishers of the mixed relay team at all CHALLENGEFAMILY full and middle distance events (where relays are conducted).
  • One slot for each of the top six (6) finishers of the all-male relay team at all CHALLENGEFAMILY full and middle distance events (where relays are conducted).
  • One slot for each of the top six (6) finishers of the all-female relay team at all CHALLENGEFAMILY full and middle distance events (where relays are conducted).
  • Slots will roll down in each category up to 12th place.


4.0 QUALIFIER ENTRY SYSTEM

  • Upon qualifying for THECHAMPIONSHIP at any one of the qualifier events, the qualifying athlete will receive a registration code (via email) from CHALLENGEFAMILY. This code will allow the athlete to complete the on-line registration form for THECHAMPIONSHIP at the event website. Qualification for THECHAMPIONSHIP is only finalized upon completion of the on-line registration form and full payment of the event registration fee.
  • The qualifying athlete will have four (4) weeks to register for THECHAMPIONSHIP (and pay the event registration fee) following the receipt of the registration code. Failure to register within the 4-weeks expiry period will waive the qualification. After the 4-weeks period the left qualification slots will roll down up to max. 12th place.
  • CHALLENGEFAMILY may offer discretionary special invitations to athletes to participate in THECHAMPIONSHIP. These discretionary special invitations may be age-group athletes, professional athletes, media personalities, sponsors or any special invitation as Challenge Family wishes to issue.

 

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFYING


1.0 QUALIFICATION SYSTEM

THECHAMPIONSHIP half-distance professional athlete qualification system for Samorin 2018 is based on place getting, as opposed to the accrual of points. The allocation of qualification slots to professional podium finishers from Challenge Family events and podium finishers from selected events across the triathlon spectrum is designed to ensure that THECHAMPIONSHIP is the pinnacle of long distance triathlon.

 

2.0 QUALIFICATION PERIOD

Qualification for THECHAMPIONSHIP Samorin 2018 will commence at Challenge Salou on May 28, 2017 and conclude at Challenge Salou in May 2018 (Date TBC).

 

3.0 SLOT ALLOCATION

The allocation of slots for THECHAMPIONSHIP Samorin 2018 is outlined as follows:

3.1 TOP 10 finishers THECHAMPIONSHIP 2017

  • One slot for each of the top ten (10) male professional finishers at THECHAMPIONSHIP 2017 (10 slots in total).
  • One slot for each of the top ten (10) female professional finishers at THECHAMPIONSHIP 2017 (10 slots in total).
  • TOP 10 male and female finisher at THECHAMPIONSHIP 2017 will be required to validate their THECHAMPIONSHIP 2018 slot by completing one CHALLENGEFAMILY event (full or middle distance) within the qualification period.

3.2 Challenge Family Professional Athlete Slots

  • One slot for each of the top five (5) male professional finishers at all Challenge Family full distance and half distance races in the qualification period (5 slots per race).
  • One slot for each of the top five (5) female professional finishers Challenge Family full distance and half distance races (5 slots per race).
  • Slots will not roll down.

3.3 Regional Championships

  • For any regional championship events announced and conducted during the qualification period these regional championship events will carry double slots then all other Challenge Family events.

3.4 Ironman Professional Athlete Slots

  • One slot for each of the top five (5) male professional finishers at the 2017 Ironman World Championship (5 slots in total).
  • One slot for each of the top five (5) female professional finishers at the 2017 Ironman World Championship (5 slots in total).
  • All recipients of slots at the 2017 Ironman World Championship will be required to validate their THECHAMPIONSHIP slot by completing one Challenge Family event (full or half distance) within the qualification period.
  • One slot for each of the top three (3) male professional finishers at the 2017 Ironman 70.3 World Championship (3 slots in total).
  • One slot for each of the top three (3) female professional finishers at the 2017 Ironman 70.3 World Championship (3 slots in total).
  • All recipients of slots at the 2017 Ironman 70.3 World Championship will be required to validate their THECHAMPIONSHIP slot by completing one Challenge Family event (full or half distance) within the qualification period.
  • A total of sixteen (16) qualifying slots are available at Ironman events.

3.5 International Triathlon Union Professional Athlete Slots

  • One slot for each of the top three (3) male professional finishers at the 2017 ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championship (3 slots in total).
  • One slot for each of the top three (3) female professional finishers at the 2017 ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championship (3 slots in total).
  • All recipients of slots at the 2017 ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championship will be required to validate their THECHAMPIONSHIP slot by completing one Challenge Family event (full or half distance) within the qualification period.
  • One slot for each of the top three (3) ranked professional males in the 2017 ITU World Triathlon Series. Rankings determined following the completion of the WTS Grand Final in Cozumel, Mexico (3 slots in total).
  • One slot for each of the top three (3) ranked professional females in the 2017 ITU World Triathlon Series. Rankings determined following the completion of the WTS Grand Final in Rotterdam, Netherlands (3 slots in total).
  • All recipients of slots via the 2017 World Triathlon Series rankings will be required to validate their THECHAMPIONSHIP slot by completing one Challenge Family event (full or half distance) within the qualification period.
  • A total of twelve (12) slots are available for International Triathlon Union athletes

3.6 Olympic Games Professional Athlete Slots

  • One slot for each of the top three (3) finishers at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games triathlon for men (3 slots in total).
  • One slot for each of the top three (3) finishers at the 2016 Rio Olympic Games triathlon for women (3 slots in total).
  • A total of ten (6) slots for The Championship Samorin 2017 are available via the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
  • All recipients of slots via the 2016 Rio Olympic Games will be required to validate their THECHAMPIONSHIP slot by completing one Challenge Family event (full or half distance) within the qualification period.

3.7 New Events in the Qualification Period

  • One slot for each of the top five (5) male professional finishers at all new Challenge Family full distance and half distance races in the qualification period (5 slots per race).
  • One slot for each the top five (5) female professional finishers at all new Challenge Family full distance and half distance races (5 slots per race).

 

4.0 RACE DATE

THECHAMPIONSHIP Samorin 2018 (Half-Distance) is scheduled for June 3, 2018.

 

5.0 RACE VENUE

THECHAMPIONSHIP Samorin 2018 will take place at x-bionic® sphere, Samorin, Slovakia.

 

6.0PROPOSED PRIZE PURSE AND BREAKDOWN

A minimum prize purse of €150,000.

6.1 Prize Purse Breakdown

Prize money, (based on the minimum prize purse of €150,000) will be distributed equally between the top ten (10) Male professionals and the top ten (10) females professionals as follows:

Any additional prize money amounts above the minimum prize purse will be allocated evenly and at the discretion of Event organisers among the top ten male and female professional finishers and an updated prize purse breakdown will be published.

 

7.0 FULL INVITATIONS

A limited number of professional will be offered a full invitation to THECHAMPIONSHIP Samorin 2018. A full invitation will include flight assistantance (economy class), accommodation at x-bionic© sphere, three meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) per day and airport transfers. Athletes with full invitations will also have the opportunity to train at the race venue (x-bionic® sphere) for seven (7) nights free of charge. This can be at any time of the year, subject to availability of accommodation and venues for training purposes. Athletes accepting the full invitation will be required to complete promotional obligations on behalf of the event, which will be outlined in the invitation to the respective athletes.

 

8.0 REGISTRATION

8.1 Registration Fees

Professional registration for THECHAMPIONSHIP 2018 is free for all professional athletes who have a valid Challenge Family Professional Membership.

8.2 Registration Process for Qualifiers via Challenge Family Events

Professional athletes who qualify for THECHAMPIONSHIP at any Challenge Family event will receive a letter of congratulations from the organisors of THECHAMPIONSHIP shortly after the qualifying event. This letter will include a registration code and details in order to complete an on-line registration for The Championship within thirty (30) days of receiving the registration code. Professional athletes who do not complete the online registration within the code expiry period will automatically waive their qualifying status and will be required to qualify at another Challenge Family or Non-Challenge Family qualifier event during the qualifier period. Once re-qualified, the registration process will be repeated.

8.3 Registration Process for qualifiers via Non-Challenge Family Events

Professional athletes who are invited to participate in THECHAMPIONSHIP via a Non-CHALLENGEFAMILY event will receive a letter of invitation from the organizers of THECHAMPIONSHIP shortly after the event. Registration for THECHAMPIONSHIP from athletes who are invited via Non-CHALLENGEFAMILY events will only be validated once the athlete validates at and completes a CHALLENGEFAMILY half or full distance event within the qualifying period.

 

9.0 Withdrawal prior to the race

All athletes who accept their qualification slot and officially register must inform Belinda (belinda@challenge-family.com) no later than three weeks prior to the race if they no longer intend racing. May 13, 2018 will be the latest date acceptable for cancellation. Full entry fee will be charged if we are not informed before this date unless there is a valid reason (e.g.- injury or sickness).
